Editorial policy
What follows describes our internal rules for preparing texts. It also states what happens when someone finds a mistake in a published text.
Responsibility for what is published
Every publication goes out under the author's name. Fact-checking sits with the same person, not with an external supplier.
Material on this site is prepared and checked by James Caldwell.
Checking data and naming sources
Figures, dates and quotations are checked against the primary source. When a statement relies on someone else's data, the text names the owner of that data and the period it covers.
Feedback and corrections
A report can be written in plain words — it only needs to say where the problem is. If the error is confirmed, the text is corrected and the reason for the edit is shown on the page.
